COMM214 - Social and Cultural Issue Documentary Production

An advanced workshop in documentary production. Using digital video technology, students will design, produce, and edit three short documentaries on contemporary social or cultural issues. Student films will be viewed and critiqued in class. Critical viewing and class discussions will identify and analyze the elements of effective non-fiction storytelling, and will explore realities and decisions faced by documentary filmmakers, e.g., point of view, objectivity, voice, and the ethical dilemmas often confronted by the documentary filmmaker. To take this course, a student must be proficient in the basic skills of production.Prerequisite: SCRN107 or ARTS107 or TA107 or COMM107 or permission. Mr. Simon/ Offered every other year
