- Recombinant DNA/Lecture, Laboratory
A laboratory-oriented course designed to introduce recombinant DNA methodology. Students undertake a semester-long project, which will vary each time the course is offered. A typical project might involve construction of a genomic library, isolation of specific clones from the library and characterization of these clones. Methods usually include DNA purification, Southern blot hybridization, restriction enzyme mapping, bacterial transformation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing. Prerequisite: BIOL 118 or permission of instructor. Mr. Larochelle/Offered every year.
